Hey Hurricanes! My name is Kathleen Calkins and this will be my first summer as Head Coach. I am also so excited to be coaching the 6 and unders! I am extremely grateful to be back for this swim season. Next year, I will be a junior at Colorado State University studying Health and Exercise Science with a concentration in Sports Medicine. I hope to go to PA school and become a physician assistant in the pediatrics. Some of my hobbies include scrapbooking, working out and being outdoors. I love hanging out with friends, and my family is a very important part of my life. I swam for the Hurricanes from age 9 to 18 and I loved every minute of it. I am so grateful that I can still be a part of this team as a Hurricane coach! Swim team is always the highlight of my summer and it is because of all the great swimmers and their passion for this team. I love all the team spirit that Homestead has. So get ready Hurricanes, it’s going to be another awesome season! See you all at the pool J

Assistant Coach: Sean DesMarteau
(9-10 Boys)
Email: Sean2416@comcast.net
Hey all you Hurricanes! My name is Sean DesMarteau and I will be the coach for the 9-10 boys’ age group for the 2011 swim season. I am currently 20 years old and have just finished my sophomore year at the University of Colorado studying Electrical Engineering. Along with my second year of coaching I have also swam for the Hurricanes for 9 years starting from age 9 and through all those years I have seen how much the Hurricanes have meant to this neighborhood and myself. In addition, to swimming for the Hurricanes I also swam for the ACES swim club for two years and swam on the Cherry Creek High School Boys Swim Team all four years, two of which I swam on the varsity team. I’m excited for the summer and I hope all of you are. Finally, remember that the Hurricanes is about having fun and enjoying swimming with all your friends. No one should see the first place person as the only winner. Rather, look to see who behaves like a winner and has the most fun while doing it.

Coach: Kendall Hagar
(7-8 Girls)
Email: KMHagar@comcast.net

Hey swimmers – I can’t wait to get back to the Homestead pool for my second year of coaching! Swimming has been a huge part of my life, and it all started right here in Homestead as a member of the Hurricanes. I started when I was six, and also swam club and on varsity for Creek until my Junior year when a health problem took me out of the competitive ranks. I still love the sport, and have turned my attention to coaching. Besides coaching the 9-10 girls last year, I have also logged a total of seven years coaching the Cherry Creek Special Olympics swim team, including one year as head coach of the youth team. I attend High Point University in North Carolina (one year down three to go) where I am majoring in Special Education, with a minor in Non-Profit Management and Leadership. In addition to my coaching and advocacy work with Special Olympics, I am the philanthropy chair for my sorority, Sigma Sigma Sigma. I am so excited to be able to share my swimming experience and my love of the sport with Homestead’s 8 and under girls this year! Can’t wait to see you all at the pool – LET’S HAVE SOME FUN!

Coach: Mike Sellers
(13-18 Boys and Girls)
Email: Mike.Sellers@Colorado.edu

Hi Hurricanes! I’m so excited to be coming back to coach the 13-18’s for what I hope will be another successful swim season! This will be my eleventh year with the Hurricanes – I swam for nine (two of which I was an H2O), and have coached both the 9-10 girls and 13-18’s age group in the last two years. On the off season I’m a finance major up at CU-Boulder (go Buffs!) where I participate in student government and business peer mentors. I also shred on the guitar and hope to rock your socks off with playing the national anthem at home meets J. I’m very appreciative to have the opportunity to coach again this summer and I’m looking forward to using my experience with the team to help contribute to the championship tradition and to make this the most fun swim season ever!
